About the font Prog Mono

I can't help returning to modular fonts from time to time. I think they have a fascinating hold over graphic/type deisgners because they pose a neat problem: what's the most elegant and practical typeface you can create from the most minimal kit of components?

Prog Mono is a modular font created on a five by nine square grid. The x-height, and therefore all of the lower case adheres to a five by five grid, with an additional two units above and two units below for capitals, ascenders and descenders. 

There are three versions of Prog Mono available: Square (square-edged), Radius (round-edged) and Fusion which is essentially square but with curved O's, round punctuation and diagonal 45° X's. The addition of a few disruptive characters makes quite a difference to the look of the font, it has a bit of a dangerous quality.

The rules of the monospaced typeface demand that all latters occupy the same width, whether m or i, so the m's are compressed while the i's are expanded, for balance. There is also a non-monospaced version of Prog available, where the widest characters are afforded more width – but still adhere to the grid, so just use more squares.

All versions have full upper and lower case character sets and includes all accented characters for Western and Central European languages.
