Korto
Inspired by the classic, geometric sans-serifs Futura and Avant Garde, and to a lesser extent Gill Sans, Talbot Type Korto is my most geometric sans-serif. Although at first glance it might appear similar to Futura and Avant Garde, I’d like to think it is more geometrically pure than both. A glance at the G’s above reveals that Korto is subtly more geometric and this occurs throughout the font.
It’s probably heresy to say it, but I think that both Futura and Avant Garde can be bettered in places. As with all designs inspired by pure geometry, the key to a beautiful result is to know how far to push the geometry.
Across the 26 characters there's considerable variation in the width, O is a near perfect circle while E and F are quite narrow. When used in combination, the wider and narrower letters working together results in a balanced, harmonious look.
I hope Korto will prove to be a versatile typeface and so chose to create a comprehensive family of seven weights, and an extended character set to offer a wider range of accented characters.
