About the font Klamp Mono

With their even, legible geometry, Klamp 105 and 205 are well-suited to a monospaced variation.

Monospaced or fixed-width fonts were first designed for typewriters where the carriage advanced the same distance after each character. 

Nowadays, they tend to be used for tabulated data, technical manuals and in computer programming to distinguish code from natural language text. They’re also used in scripts for screen and stageplays apparently, where the fixed width makes it possible to easily determine the length of the production.

I’ve created two variations of Talbot Type Klamp Mono, one for each of the Klamp 105 and Klamp 205 fonts.

I like the challenge of taking characters that are normally so different in width, such as an i and an m and adapting them to occupy a similar, fixed width. It’s always going to create a slightly odd result, but odd in a good way. Although we no longer use typewriters, monospaced fonts still seem widely used.
